Editors:Jin U. Kang
Photonics Technology has made a significant impact on a wide range of medical and biomedical applications. These days, it is not uncommon to find several optical equipments in operating rooms and medical research laboratories. This wide and rapid acceptance of photonics technology in medicine is evidence of the usefulness of photonics technology in high resolution imaging, diagnostics, therapeutics, and to study various tissues and cells, just to name few applications. This focus issue is intended to highlight some of the biophotonics research areas with original contributions covering the many aspects of this field. The represented areas include confocal and nonlinear microscopy; fluorescence imaging; optical coherence tomography and applications; biomedical sensors and instruments; optical tissue and bio-marker characterization; light therapy; and image processing.
